2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup

The 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup was the 19th playout of the continental championship in football for North, Central America and the Caribbean, and 9 under the name " Gold Cup " and was held from the 6th to the 24th of June in the USA. It was the third time that no guests attended from other confederations.

The U.S. won 2-1 in the final against Mexico and thus qualified for the FIFA Confederations Cup 2009 in South Africa.

Qualification

At the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup was attended by twelve national teams from North and Central America and the Caribbean.

Automatically qualify the following teams were:

  • Canada Canada
  • Mexico Mexico
  • United States of America

The Caribbean Football Championship 2007 was at the same time qualifying for the Caribbean zone. The four semi-finalists of the competition qualified for the Gold Cup. After this competition, the following teams were a participant in the Gold Cup in 2007 that:

  • Haiti Haiti
  • Cuba Cuba
  • Trinidad and Tobago Trinidad and Tobago

The qualification in Central America took place until February 18, 2007 during the Copa Centroamericana Nations Cup 2007 in San Salvador (El Salvador ) of 8 February. It was played in two groups of four and three teams. The first and second place in each group qualified for the Gold Cup in 2007, the two third group identified the fifth participants from Central America. After this competition, the following teams were a participant in the Gold Cup in 2007 that:

The first two teams in each group qualified for the quarter-finals. In addition, the two best third qualified for the round of the last eight teams.

Preliminary round

The draw for the preliminary round groups following pairings were:

Group A

The matches of Group A were held at the Orange Bowl Stadium in Miami, Florida. Canada as a group first and Costa Rica as group runners qualified directly for the next round. Guadeloupe qualified as one of two third for the knockout stage.

Group B

The first two match days of Group B were held at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. The last round was held in Foxborough, Massachusetts at Gillette Stadium. The United States as a group first and Guatemala as group runners qualified directly for the next round.

Group C

The first two days of the preliminary round group C were held New Jersey at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford. The last round was completely at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas. Honduras as a group first and Mexico as runners- qualified directly for the quarter-finals. Panama pulled as best third in the group also in the round of eight.
