2007 Rugby World Cup qualifying

For the final of the Rugby Union World Cup 2007, which was held in September and October in France, the eight participants in the quarter-finals of the 2003 World Cup were automatically eligible to start. Ten of the twelve other available seats in the tournament were filled by the winners of regional qualifying tournaments, two more followed in playoff games ( Barrage ).

The qualifiers were divided into five continental groups. The participants were a total of 86 teams, including 14 from Africa, 19 from America, 13 from Asia, 31 from Europe and 9 from Oceania.

Africa

Africa had a solid starting place for the final disposal. In addition, for a second team had the opportunity to qualify through a Barrage. In the group stage, there were three points for a win, two for a draw and one for a loss; no bonus points were awarded.

Round 1a

In two groups played three teams once each against each other. The group winners played a playoff, the winner advancing to the round 1b.

In two groups played three teams once each against each other. The group winners advanced directly in front of the round 2. The runners-up were playing a playoff for the second place in the Round 2

Group A

Ivory Coast qualified directly for round 2, Zimbabwe for the playoff.

Group B

Kenya qualified directly for round 2, Uganda for the playoff.

Playoff

Uganda was advancing into the Round 2 with a total score of 36:31.

Round 2

In two groups of three teams each played one home and away match against the two group opponents. The group winners qualified for the Round 3

Namibia qualified for Round 3

Group 2

Morocco qualified for Round 3

Round 3

Namibia qualified as Africa 1 directly for the World Cup finals. Morocco moved up into the Barrage Round and played as against Africa 2 Europe 4 The winner of this game then played against America 4 for a place in the finals.

America

North and South America together had three fixed starting positions for the final disposal. In addition, for a fourth team was a chance to qualify via a Barrage ( against the winner of the game against Africa 2 Europe 4). In the group stage, there were three points for a win, two for a draw and one for a loss; no bonus points were awarded.

Round 1a

In two groups of four teams each played the Caribbean zone once each against each other. The group winners played a playoff, the winner advancing to the round 3b.

Prequalification

St. Lucia qualified for the southern group.

Southern group

Barbados qualified for the playoff.

Northern group

The Bahamas qualified for the play-off.

Playoff

Barbados moved into the round before 3b.

Round 1b

Were eligible to participate, the teams of the second division of the CONSUR, the South American continental federation. Four teams played against each other once each. The group winners advanced to the Round 2.

Brazil advanced to the Round 2.

Round 2

This round disputed 1b, the two bottom teams in the CONSUR Division 1 and the winner of the round. The winner advanced to the Round 3a.

Chile moved up in the round 3a.

Round 3

This round contest the two top teams in the CONSUR Division 1 and the winner of that round 2 The group winners qualify directly for the World Cup finals, the runner-up advanced to the round of 4.

Argentina qualified as one America for the World Cup finals, Uruguay advanced to the round of 4.

Round 3b

The United States, Canada and the winner of the round 1a participated in this round. The group winners qualify directly for the World Cup finals, the runner-up advanced to the round of 4.

Canada qualified as America 2 for the World Cup finals, the United States advanced in the Round 4.

Round 4

The United States qualified directly for the finals as America Uruguay advanced to third in the Barrage Round and played as America 4 against whoever wins the Africa 2 - 4 Europe for a place in the finals.

Asia

Asia had a solid starting place for the final disposal. In addition, for a second team had the opportunity to qualify through a Barrage. In the group stage, there were three points for a win, two for a draw and one for a loss; it not be awarded bonus points.

Round 1a

Division 1

All three teams advanced in the round 2, it only went to the later group classification. The first and second placed then played in Division 1, the third-place finisher in Division 2

Division 2

Three teams played against each other once each. The group winners advanced to the Division 1 of Round 2, the group runners-up in the Division 2

Division 3 - Group A

Three teams played against each other once each. The group winners played a playoff ( round 1b ) against the winner of Group B for a place in the Round 2

Sri Lanka was advancing into the Round 1b.

Division 3 - Group B

Four teams played against each other once each. The group winners played a playoff ( round 1b) against the winner of Group A for a place in the Round 2

Kazakhstan moved up in the round 1b.

Round 1b

Sri Lanka was advancing into the Round 2 with a total score of 43:37.

Round 2

Division 1

Three teams played against each other once each. The group winners and runners-up were advancing into the Round 3.

Japan and South Korea were advancing into the Round 3.

Division 2

Three teams played against each other once each. The group winners advanced to the Round 3.

Hong Kong moved up into Round 3.

Round 3

All games should have originally held in Colombo, but due to the uncertain political situation in Sri Lanka, these were transferred to Hong Kong. Japan qualified as Asia 1 directly for the World Cup finals. South Korea played as Asia 2 in a Barrage against Oceania 3 for a place in the finals.

Europe

Europe had three fixed starting positions for the final disposal. In addition, for a fourth team was a chance to qualify via a Barrage. Were also included in the World Cup qualifier with the results of the European Nations Cup 2004-2006. In the group stage, there were three points for a win, two for a draw and one for a loss; no bonus points were awarded.

Round 1

The eight teams in the divisions 3B ( without the relegated from 3A Hungary) and 3C ( without Azerbaijan and Armenia) played a round in the knockout system for a place in the Round 2

Andorra, Austria, Bulgaria and Lithuania were advancing into Round 2.

Round 2

The four winners of Round 1, Hungary and the 15 teams in the Divisions 2A, 2B and 3A were drawn into four groups of five teams. Each team played once each group opponents. The group first and the second group were advancing into Round 3. The four third-placed teams wore a playoff for a place in the Round 3.

Group A

Spain and Croatia were advancing into the round 3, Andorra moved into the playoff.

Group B

Germany and Moldova were advancing into Round 3, Denmark moved into the playoff.

Group C

Belgium and the Netherlands were advancing into the Round 3, Sweden moved into the playoff.

Group D

Poland and Serbia and Montenegro were advancing into Round 3, Malta moved into the playoff.

Playoff

Andorra and Malta were advancing into Round 3 with a total score of 40:34 and 31:30.

Round 3

The four group winners, the four runners-up and the two play-off winners of Round 2 will be drawn into two groups of five teams. The two group winners come to a play-off to for a place in the Round 4.

Spain moved into the playoff.

Group B

Germany moved into the playoff.

Playoff

Spain advanced to the round 4 with a total score of 42:28.

European Nations Cup Division 1 2004-06

Six teams of Division 1 carried out against five opponents one home and one away match in the European championship. The first three teams advanced in Round 5, the last three in round 4

Romania, Georgia and Portugal were advancing into Round 5. Russia, Czech Republic and Ukraine in the round of 4

Round 4

The three lowest-ranked teams in the Championship and the winner of the playoff round 3 contributed a playoff for a place in the Round 5.

Spain and Russia were advancing into the Round 5 with a total score of 79:29 and 62:28.

Round 5

The winner of the first playoff round 4, the third-place finisher of the European Championship and Six Nations participants Italy formed the group A. The winner of the second playoff round 4 and the first and second place of the European Nations Cup formed the group B. The group winners qualified directly for the World Cup finals, the runners were advancing into the round 6.

Italy and Romania qualify as Europe 1 and Europe 2 directly for the World Cup finals. Portugal and Georgia were advancing into the Round 6.

Round 6

Georgia qualified with a total score of 26:14 as Europe 3 for the World Cup finals. Portugal advanced to the Barrage Round and played as against Europe 4 Africa 2 The winner of this game then played against America 4 for a place in the finals.

Oceania

Oceania had two fixed starting positions for the final disposal. In addition, for a third team had the opportunity to qualify through a Barrage. In the group stage, there were three points for a win, two for a draw and one for a loss; no bonus points were awarded.

Round 1a

Three teams from the Oceania Region East played once each against each other. The group winners advanced to the Round 2.

Papua New Guinea was advancing into Round 2.

Round 1b

Three teams from the Oceania Region West played once each against each other. The group winners advanced to the Round 2.

The Cook Islands were advancing into Round 2.

Round 2

The Cook Islands were advancing into Round 4 with a total score of 48:32.

Round 3

Three teams played each in a home and away game against each other. The group first and the runners-up qualify directly for the World Cup finals. The third group was advancing to the Round 4.

Samoa and Fiji qualify as Oceania 1 and 2 Oceania directly for the World Cup finals. Tonga was advancing into Round 4.

Round 4

Tonga won with a total score of 167:10 and played as Oceania 3 in a Barrage against Asia 2

Portugal won with a total score of 24-23 and qualified for the World Cup finals.
