2008–09 ECHL season
The 2008/09 season was the 21st regular season of the ECHL. The 23 teams should contest in the regular season per 72 encounters, but the game plan because of premature withdrawal of two teams had to be changed several times. The point of best team in the regular season were the Florida Everblades, while the South Carolina Stingrays won in the play-offs, their third Kelly Cup.

Team changes
The following changes were made before the start of the season:
- The Ontario Reign were added as an expansion team in the league.
- The Columbia Inferno were inactive for financial reasons.
- The Pensacola Ice Pilots presented for financial reasons a game operation.
- The Augusta Lynx set for financial reasons in the course of the season a game operation.
- The Fresno Falcons prepared for financial reasons in the course of the season a game operation.
