2008–09 FA Cup

The FA Cup 2008 /09 was the 128th edition of the world's oldest football cup tournament; The Football Association Challenge Cup, or FA Cup shortly. This Cup season started with a record number of 762 clubs; after the draw but before the start of the club South Normanton Athletic was dissolved. Thus began 761 teams in the competition. Two other teams, Brierley Hill & Withymoor and Stapenhill FC got out in the early rounds, the enemy thus had a bye in the next round. The winner of this discharge was Chelsea.

The cup competition ended with the final at Wembley Stadium, London on 30 May 2009. During this season there was a new television contract for the cup competition. The transfer of rights were in August 2008 by BBC Sport and Sky Sports, ITV and Setanta Sports about.

The FA Cup is played in rounds. Can participate, each team that has a given level of performance and has an adequate pitch. The game is played i.d.R. with only one leg. In draw a second leg takes place. The return game also ends in a draw the game goes into extra time and penalties. This mode goes up to the sixth main round. From the semi-finals, there is only a game, if necessary, with extra time and penalties.

Some teams are exempted from certain rounds:

  • In the second qualifying round, the teams of the Conference North / South (6th flight of English league operations ) are added.
  • In the fourth qualifying round, the teams of the National Conference will be added (5th flight of English league operation ).
  • In the first round the teams in the League 1 and 2 Football League ( 3rd and 4th flight of the English league operations ) are added.
  • In the third main round on the first weekend of January, the teams of the Football League Championship will be added (2nd flight of English league operation ) and the Premier League ( first division of the English league operation )

The finale, as well as the two semi-finals will take place at London's Wembley Stadium.

Each winner receives a premium from the television money, which is graded according round.

First Main Round

In the first round enter each of 24 teams in the Football League One and Two in the competition.

The draw took place on 26 October 2008. The Games were held from 7th and November 9th, 2008 on weekends.

Second Main Round

The draw took place on 9 November 2008.

The games were completed by November 29, 2008 at the weekend.

Third main round

In this round, the teams enter the FA Premier League (20 teams) and the teams of the Football League Championship (24 teams) in the competition.

The draw took place on 30 November 2008.

The games were completed on the weekend of January 5, 2009.

Fourth Main Round

The draw took place on January 4, 2009.

The games were completed on the weekend of January 24, 2009.

Fifth Main Round

The draw took place on 25 January 2009.

The games were completed on the weekend of the 14th February 2009.

Sixth Main Round

The draw took place on 15 February 2009.

The games were completed on the weekend of March 7, 2009.
