2008–09 FIBA EuroChallenge

The 2008/09 season was the sixth staging of the run by FIBA Europe Euro Challenge and the first season under this name. The first group games of the regular season took place on 25 November 2008. The Final Four tournament ended on April 26, 2009 in Bologna with the victory of the domestic Virtus.

Mode

The tournament began with two qualifying rounds. There was a group stage of eight groups with four teams each. The group winners and runners- continued to play in the Top 16 phase with four groups of four teams. The top two in each group qualified for the quarter-finals, which was played in a best-of -three series. The semifinals, finals and 3rd place match took place as part of a Final Four tournament.

Qualification

First round

The first qualifying round were played on 14 and 21 October 2008.

2nd round

The matches of the second qualifying round were played on 4 and 11 November 2008.

Participants in the main round

At the regular season of Euro Challenge attracted 32 teams.

  • 9 clubs were directly qualified for the main draw
  • 15 clubs as the losers of two qualifying rounds of the Euro Cup.
  • 8 clubs as the winner of the two qualifying rounds of the Euro Challenge.

The games of the first group stage took place between 25 November 2008 and 13 January 2009.

Quarterfinals

The quarter-final was played in a best-of -three series. The games were held until March 25, 2009 of 17.

The Final Four took place 24 to 26 April 2009 in the FuturShow station in Bologna.
