2008–09 NLA season

The 2008 /09 was the second regular period of highest ice hockey league in Switzerland after the renaming of the former National League A in National League A. The HC Davos defeated in the playoff finals, the Kloten Flyers 4-3, winning for the 29th time the Swiss champion titles, while the ZSC Lions were unable to defend her title. In the League qualifier of the NLB Champion HC Lausanne failed because of the EHC Biel, so it neither gives an up another relegated from the league.

Mode

Be played by the 12 teams 2 double rounds of 22 games. There are 6 per team per additional matches against three opponents, which are calculated on the basis of the qualification table last year. Overall, therefore, denies any team's 50 qualifying matches. After that, the best eight teams in the playoffs determine the champion Swiss style. Quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals are played respectively by the mode best -of-seven.

The other four teams identify in the play- outs that team that has to play in the league against the champions of the National League B.

Participant

In the composition of the National League A, there was the 2008/ 09 season, a change compared to last season. The EHC Biel has succeeded after several attempts the promotion. NLA Playout loser who EHC Basel, also failed in the crucial relegation matches at Biel plays and new to the National League B.

In the NLA - qualification for the 2008 /09 a new attendance record was recorded. A total of 1.82 million people visited the 300 championship games. This represents a significant increase of 160,000 or 9.6 percent compared to the previous year. Most popular was the SC Bern, with 16'172 spectators on average per game even by European standards can record a very high flood of spectators. In the final of the NLA Kloten Flyers met the champion of 2007, the HC Davos. The best- of-seven series for the title of Swiss Champion was mainly characterized by a high proportion of away wins and a more defensive tactics of both teams. Finally sat down the team from Davos 4-3 wins against the Flyers by making it the first team to play the maximum number of 21 games needed in the NLA playoffs to win the title.
