2008 Allsvenskan

The Fotbollsallsvenskan 2008 was the 84th season of the highest Swedish football league Fotbollsallsvenskan. The season began on March 30 of the year, end of the season was on 9 November 2008.

At the end of the season Kalmar FF was able to secure for the first time the Swedish championship title. The placed behind IF Elfsborg, IFK Göteborg and Helsingborgs IF moved to the UEFA Europa League, the successor to the UEFA Cup, where IFK Gothenburg has to intervene as cup winners only in the third qualifying round. The three climbers Ljungskile SK, GIF Sundsvall IFK Norrköping and found themselves in a relegation battle again. The last two eventually had to dismount directly, while Ljungskile SK occupied the relegation place. Due to the away goals rule, the club was relegated to its own place after a 0-0 away draw at IF Brommapojkarna and a 1-1 draw.

Background

In December 2006, the Svenska Fotbollförbundet had from the 2008 an increase of the League decided so that the first 16 teams to the Swedish championship played in the history of the Allsvenskan. Otherwise, there was no change in the mode.
