2008 European Women's Handball Championship

The 8th European Handball Championship of Women was held from December 14, 2008 in Macedonia of 2. The title could be secured for the third time in a row the team from Norway, which clearly prevailed in the final against the Spanish team. Germany finally finished in fourth place, Austria was Fifteenth.

Venues

The matches of the European Championship were held in the Macedonian capital, Skopje, and located on the same lake town of Ohrid.

  • Skopje - Boris Trajkovski - Arena (8,000 seats)
  • Ohrid - Biljanini - Izvori sports hall ( 3,500 seats)

Preliminary round

The 16 teams were divided into 4 groups of 4 teams. Within each group played each team once against every other team. The first three of each group then reached the main round.

Group A

The group A played in Skopje.

Group B

The matches of Group B took place in Ohrid.

Group C

All matches of group C were held in Ohrid.

Group D

The group D wore their games from Skopje.

Main Round

Out of the twelve teams from the preliminary round, two groups were formed. In group I played the first three of the groups A and B, in group II, the first three of the groups C and D. The points were taken from the first round that has been made against the other teams who have also reached the main round. Both first and second- placed teams from the groups were advancing to the semifinals. The third of the two groups played from the 5th Place.

The games in Group I were held in Ohrid.

Group II

The games in Group II were held in Skopje.

Final round

All matches in the final round took place in Skopje.
