2008 Tour de France, Stage 1 to Stage 11#Stage 9

The 9th stage of the 2008 Tour de France on July 13 was 224 km long and ran from Toulouse to Bagneres -de- Bigorre. There were two intermediate sprints and four climbs the fourth category, a mountain stage of the third category and two climbs of the first category on the program.

Shortly after the launch, David de la Fuente, Freddy Bichot, Stef Clement, Giampaolo Cheula, David Moncoutié, Björn Schröder tried to sell what they did not succeed. At kilometer 22, then launched a successful escape attempt from Alyaksandr Kuschynski, Nicolas Jalabert and Sebastian Lang. They could quickly pull out a maximum lead of 14:20 minutes. De la Fuente, who fought for the mountain jersey, and Maxime Monfort attacked. Meanwhile, Long was able to pull of his two companions at the top. On the ascent to Col d' Aspin, there were several attacks of favorites. Luis León Sánchez was able to catch up with de la Fuente and Monfort. Then began a major attack of Riccardo Riccò, the obsolete even before the summit long and so continued to the top. All other drivers were swallowed again from the field. Bernhard Kohl attempted to secure by a sprint on the last climb long the mountain jersey, but failed because De la Fuente took the necessary points with fourth place. The goal in Bagneres -de- Bigorre was reached after a difficult descent through Campan on a 180 meter long and 6.5 meter wide stretch. There Riccò succeeded the second stage victory. Vladimir Jefimkin reached the finish in second place ahead of the field. Kim Kirchen was able to defend the yellow jersey and also settle in the rankings for the green jersey again. Stefan Schumacher lost some time and so the third place in the overall standings to Christian Vande Velde. Andy Schleck took the white jersey of Thomas Lövkvist, who lost a lot of time.
