2008 World Championship of Ski Mountaineering

The IV World Cup in ski mountaineering in 2008 was from 23 to 29 February 2008 in Portes du Soleil, Switzerland, discharged. It was organized by the International Council for Ski Mountaineering Competitions ( ISMC ) of the Union Internationale des Associations d' Alpinisme ( UIAA ). For the first time the so-called long- distance was added as discipline in the IV implementation. Participated have around 450 ski mountaineers of the national squad from a total of 29 nations.

After initial briefings to the event, the opening ceremony and the presentation of the participating nations in the ice rink of Champery took place in the evening on 23 February 2008. On 24 February, the single race ski mountaineering for men and women was the ages " seniors " and " juniors " discharged. On February 25, the relay race followed in four seasons and on 26 February the team competition. After a rest day for the runners the vertical race and on the last day of the World Cup individual race the long distance was held on February 28. On February 29, closing ceremonies with invasion of athletes took place at the award ceremony for the long distance in port.

The Single Race for took place in Valerette on 24 February 2008. Was started in Les Cerniers / Monthey. The difference in height of ascent and descent amounted to / - 1650m. In a corresponding result participants in the age group " espoir " in the mitgewertet were " seniors ".
