2008 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships

The 32nd Ice Hockey World Championships U20 juniors of the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships were in 2008 in the age group of under- twenties ( U20). In total, between 9 December 2007 and 24 January 2008 41 teams in the six tournaments in the top division and the divisions I to III part.

The world champion was the 14th time the team of Canada that could beat Sweden in the final 3-2 after extra time. The German team was able to with the victory in Group A of Division I secure the direct promotion back to the top division, Switzerland finished ninth in the top division, and thus rose from Division I. Austria was in Group A of the Second Division I behind Germany and thus missed the promotion to the top division.

Top Division

The U-20 World Championship was held on December 26, 2007 to January 5, 2008 in Pardubice and Liberec in the Czech Republic. The games were held ( 7,250 seats) in the ČEZ Aréna ( 10,300 seats) and in the Tipsport Arena.

It was attended by ten teams that played in two groups of five teams. The Canadian team was. By a 3-2 final victory in extra time over Sweden for the fourth time in a row and a total of 14 world champions after they were the Swedes still inferior surprising in the first round

Mode

After the group matches of the preliminary round, the two group winners qualified directly for the semi-finals. The runners-up and third ever denied a qualifier for the semi-finals. The Fourth and Fifth of the group matches contested - if you bring the result of the direct encounter of the first round - the relegation round and determined while two relegated to Division I.

Division I

Group A in Bad Tolz, Germany

The World Cup Group A Division I was held from 9 to 15 December 2007 in Bad Tolz in Germany. The games found in up to 4,000 -seat Hacker-Pschorr instead arena in which also the EC Bad Tölz plays its home games.

The German U20 national team managed the unbeaten promotion back to the top division after being able to win against Austria in the decisive final group match. As relegated to Division II Lithuanians went out of the tournament.

As the best goalkeeper of the German Timo Pielmeier was awarded. Other awards were given to the German defender Christopher Fischer and Austrian striker Michael Raffl who led together with the German Frank Wall, the scorer list with 13 points.

Group B in Riga, Latvia

The group B of Division I wore her World Cup from 12 to 18 December 2007 in the Latvian capital Riga. Venue was the Riga Arena with 11,000 seats, built for Ice Hockey World Championship for Men 2006.

As winner of the tournament and thus promoted into the A group showed the Latvian U20 selection, which celebrated a 3-1 victory in the decisive final game against the representative of Belarus. The Latvian Kaspars Daugaviņš and Frenchman Stephane Da Costa shared the top scorer crown while Artūrs Kulda (LAT ) at the best defender, Maksim Maljuzin ( BLR) best goalkeeper and Jan Muršak (SLO ) were chosen as the best striker.

Group A in Canazei, Italy

From 9 to 15 December 2007 the World Cup Group A Division II took place in Canazei in Italy. The matches were played at the rink Palaghiaccio Gianmario Scola with 4,000 seats.
