2008 World Wrestling Championships

The Wrestling World Championships 2008 took place from 11th to 13th October 2008 in Kokuritsu Kyōgijō Yoyogi in Tokyo. Because of the Olympics in the same year only Women's competitions were held. Only competitions took place in four weight classes as well as at the 2004 Olympic Games in the women, so it was decided that to hold separate world championships. Japan celebrated athletes on the podium in all seven contests. In the weight category -55 kg initially Anna Zwirydowska had won the bronze medal from Poland. Because of a breach in the doping test but was subsequently disqualified and awarded the medal to the Canadian Britanee Laverdure.
