2009–10 Vysshaya Liga season
The season 2009/10 Wysschaja League was the 18th season of the second highest Russian hockey league. The championship, the so-called Bratin Cup, HK Yugra Khanty-Mansiysk won for the second year in a row, reaching the sporting qualification for promotion to the KHL. Due to the reform of the second division had to after the season Chimik Woskressensk and HK Lipetsk withdraw for financial reasons while other teams descended into the Perwaja league.
Mode
The 27 teams in the league Wysschaja were divided into three conferences before the season according to regional criteria. Had the Western Conference with ten teams a participant more than the Central Conference with nine teams and two more than the Eastern Conference with eight teams. First, each team played six games against each opponent within their own conference, so the number of matches per team in the Western Conference 54, in the Central Conference and 48 in the Eastern Conference was 42.
The top eight teams qualified for the knockout stages then the playoffs, in which the second division champion was played out during the following 16 teams started already in the playoff final sixteenth. For a win within regular time each team received three points with a victory after extra two points with a defeat after extra time there was a point and a defeat after regular time zero points.
