2009 CAF Champions League

The CAF Champions League 2009 was the 13th edition of Africa's highest football tournament. It began on 30 January 2009 with the first round and ended on November 7, 2009 with the final second leg. Titleholder was Al -Ahly Cairo Egypt, but was eliminated in the second round. Tout Puissant Mazembe won the title from the Democratic Republic of Congo, 40 years after the club in the previous competition ( African Champions Cup ) was the last time victorious, and 38 years after they had last reached the final. For the first time since 1998, did not reach the North African team the final and for the first time since 2004, won again a team from sub-Saharan Africa competition.

Preliminary round

First leg from January 30th to February 1st leg matches from 13th to 15th of February.

1 team pulled back. 2 The first leg was canceled due to political unrest in Madagascar.

A bye in the first round were:

  • Tout Puissant Mazembe Democratic Republic of Congo

Two organizations reported their teams after the specified date. These two teams played against each other in a second round. However, the winner could only qualify for the first round, if another withdrew in the first round victorious club. The first leg took place on February 22, the second leg on March 8, 2009.

However, since no qualified for the first round team withdrew, left also the Akonangui FC.

First round

First leg from March 13 to 15, Second leg matches from 3rd to 5th of April.

Second Round

First leg from April 17 to 19, Second leg matches from 1 to 3 May

The losing teams will play in the CAF Confederation Cup 2009.

First leg on October 4, return legs on 10 and 18 October.

Final

First leg on November 1, second leg on November 7.
