2009 East Asian Games
The East Asian Games in 2009 (v. East Asian Games ) were held in Hong Kong from December 5 to December 13, 2009. It was the fifth competitions of this kind and the largest ever in the history of the East Asian Games. In the 90 -minute opening ceremony there was a big fireworks display over Victoria Harbour. The politician Liu Yandong declared here the nine-day Games open. The budget was 240 million Hong Kong dollars.
Sports
Compared to the Games in 2005 the sports badminton, billiards, judo, cycling, 7- rugby, squash, table tennis, volleyball and windsurfing were added, whereas dragon boat, gymnastics, karate and soft tennis were not part of the game more.

Medal Tally
As with all previous East Asian Games, China ranked in the medal first place, followed by Japan and South Korea.
