2009 FIFA Club World Cup

The FIFA Club World Championship 2009 (English: FIFA Club World Cup 2009 ) was the sixth edition of this international football competition for club teams and was held from 9 to 19 December for the first time in the United Arab Emirates take place. With the FC Barcelona for the third time in a row won a European team the title.

Mode

Compared with the current competition format since 2007 there were no changes. The tournament was played with seven participants. In addition to the six winners of the continental champion competitions at club level from Asia, Africa, CONCACAF, South America, Europe and Oceania also the master of the host country, who had to contest a playoff game against the winner of the OFC Champions League. Meanwhile, with the winner playing in Africa, Asia and CONCACAF representatives of two participants from the semi-finals. For this, the teams from Europe and South America were as previously set and played only two games each. It was played as usual in the knockout system. In eleven days, eight games were held.

Golden Ball

The "Golden Ball" for the best player of the tournament went to the Argentine Lionel Messi of FC Barcelona. The "Silver Ball" with Juan Sebastian Veron of Estudiantes de La Plata on another Argentinian and the " Bronze Ball" with the Spaniard Xavi to another player from the champions FC Barcelona.

FIFA Fair Play Trophy

The Fair Play Award for athletic proper appearance on and off the turf was the Mexican club Atlante.
