2009 Legg Mason Tennis Classic

The Legg Mason Tennis Classic 2009 was a tennis tournament which from 1 to 9 August 2009 in Washington, DC occurred. It was part of the ATP World Tour in 2009 and was discharged on hard court.

Last year's winner in the individual was Juan Martín del Potro, who again managed this year the finals and defeated the top-seeded there American Andy Roddick in three sets. In the current year, it was the second tournament win for del Potro, who has already won the tournament in Auckland. Overall, this was the sixth tournament victory on the ATP tour for the Argentines. In doubles Marc Gicquel and Robert Lindstedt were the defending champions. While Gicquel no longer took part in a double, to Lindstedt took with his new partner Martin Damm for the second consecutive tournament victory. In the final they won against the Polish duo Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski in straight sets.

The field of the individual competition consisted of 48 players, double that of the competition from 16 pairs. The 16 top-seeded player in singles each got a bye into the second round.
