The defending champion Rafael Nadal took an injury not to. The final of denied Andy Roddick and Roger Federer, which won Federer in five sets. This was his sixth triumph at the Wimbledon Championships ( after 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007 ), and his total of 15 Grand Slam titles. He was now the sole record holder, after he was caught up at the French Open in 2009 with Pete Sampras.
