2009 World Fencing Championships
The World Fencing Championships 2009 took place from 30 September to 8 October 2009 in the Turkish coastal city of Antalya instead. The choice of venue was made on 25 November 2007 with meetings held in Madrid Congress of the International Fencing Federation ( FIE ). The candidacy prevailed against the application of Copenhagen.
Turkey was after 1970 for the second time hosted the World Fencing Championships. Venue of the championships was the Antalya Expo Center. On the program, three individual and team competitions were among the ladies and gentlemen. In a departure from previous World Championships competition provided for a three-day preliminary round and six days with the final battles.

Competitions and schedule
The program included competitions in fencing genres sword, foil and saber, divided into Individual and teams as well as ladies and gentlemen. There have therefore been awarded 12 gold and 12 silver medals. Since the third place was not fought in the singles, in the team competitions already, there were split seats and therefore 18 bronze medals.
