2010 Copa Libertadores

The Copa Libertadores 2010 due to the sponsorship of the banking group Santander and Santander Libertadores Cup was the 51th edition of the most important South American football competition for club teams. This season was attended by 40 teams from 10 member associations CONMEBOL and Mexico, as two Mexican club that had to drop out of the competition in the preseason due to the influenza pandemic, were automatically given two starting places in the second round. The tournament began on January 26 with the qualifying round and ended on July 18 with the final second leg.

Participating teams

The following teams will participate in the Copa Libertadores, 2010. Since Estudiantes de La Plata is automatically here as defending champion, Argentina could send six instead of the usual five starters for the tournament, two had in the qualification. Mexico, which actually belongs to the CONCACAF, by invitation sent five teams to the tournament, two were directly qualified for the knockout stages as they had to withdraw due to the influenza pandemic in 2009. The teams that had yet to qualify for the main round, are marked in the table with a (Q).

Mode

Second round

For the last sixteen to qualified eight group winners and the six best runners because from Mexico two teams were directly qualified for the knockout stages as they had to withdraw due to the influenza pandemic in 2009.

The games were not paired, but determined by a set list. At the eight group winners according to their ranking in the start numbers of the second-best group winners, the numbers were awarded 1 to 8, which is the best group winners received 1, 2, and so were the eight group runners- 9 to 16 in the second round then played 1-16, 2 - 15, 3 - 14 ... so the best group first against the worst runners etc. Guadalajara and San Luis were given 13 and 14, which they had in the previous year before they had to withdraw from the competition.
