2010 European Athletics Championships

The 20th European Athletics Championships were held in the Spanish city of Barcelona from 27 July to 1 August 2010. The competitions were held in the Olympic Stadium Lluís Companys, which was already the scene of the 1992 Summer Olympics. The Executive Committee of the European Athletics Association (EAA ), the Catalan city confirmed on 29 April 2006 on the edge of its meeting in Göteborg as a venue. Prior to Barcelona in 2001 was inferior to the application of Gothenburg in the awarding of the European Championships 2006.

Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony of the European Athletics Championships 2010 took place on the evening of July 26, 2010 at the Magic Fountain on the grounds of the Great Exhibition of 1929 at the foot of Montjuïc instead. This was my second time to Gothenburg in 2006, the stadium not place the opening ceremony of the European Athletics Championships.

Participant

Among the competitions posted all 50 member federations of the European Athletic Association delegation to Barcelona. A total of 1370 athletes were reported.

Competitions

The European Athletics Championships competitions were held in five different competitive groups: running, jumping, throwing, and walking -around competition. The women saw one in 23 men in 24 disciplines. With the exception of the 50 -kilometer walking, which was held only among men, the competition program to the distances in the hurdles and the number of disciplines in the all around was identical.
