2010 Tour de France, Prologue to Stage 10#Stage 4

The fourth stage of the Tour de France 2010 on July 7, led over 153.5 kilometers from Cambrai to Reims. On this flat stage, there were three intermediate sprints and a mountain stage of the fourth category. After the departure of David Le Lay's Fränk Schleck and because of clavicle fractures during the stage the day before 189 of the 198 registered participants were at the start.

Race course

The real start of the stage took place exactly at 14:00 clock after three kilometers neutralized race through Cambrai. Dimitri Champion attacked shortly afterwards. He was followed by a group of four from Francis De Greef, Nicolas Vogondy, Iñaki Isasi and Iban Mayoz. Together, they were allowed to settle from the field and reached a maximum lead of about four minutes. Mayoz won the first sprint and the mountains classification. The other two sprints secured De Greef.

In the field Amets Txurruka came to case, but was able to continue. It remained the only downfall to this quiet stage. The Team Saxo Bank and HTC - Columbia made ​​the main leadership, whereby the projection of the group of five again began to shrink and the field held the outliers on a short leash. Four kilometers from the finish, De Greef, also asked the other one kilometers later.

Against the target in Reims several roundabouts were to drive through. It was followed by the first smooth mass sprint of this Tour de France, the re Alessandro Petacchi could decide for themselves. Co-favorite Mark Cavendish disappointed, however, he was only twelfth. Thor Hushovd was able to defend his green jersey in ninth place at the finish, in the other ratings, there were no changes.
