2010 Tour de France, Stage 11 to Stage 20#Stage 13

The 13th stage of the 2010 Tour de France on July 17, led about 196 km from Rodez to Revel. At this stage, with a flat profile, there were two intermediate sprints and five mountain stages, two of the third category, as well as three of the fourth category. After the abandonment of Tyler Farrar 176 of the 198 registered participants were at the start.

Race course

After 5.7 kilometers neutral ride while the Lance Armstrong crashed, but was able to continue, the driver arrived at 12:48 clock the real start. Chavanel won the first mountain stage. The field went with a gap of about six minutes on the summit, then the projection stabilized. Sergei Ivanov and Alexander Vinokourov tried after the feed zone an attack, but broke this off. Chavanel won in the top group, the fourth mountain stage and Flecha the second sprint. Due to the pace of the field work, the projection of the group was now significantly smaller and the teams of the driver standings took the lead. Jesús Hernández came to case, but had no consequences.

On the ascent to the last mountain stage to split the field, Armstrong and Anthony Charteau were located in the rear group. The escapees were captured ten kilometers from the finish again, as Team Columbia again increased the pace. As by Mark Cavendish lost the connection and the team reduced the pace somewhat, Alessandro Ballan took the opportunity to attack and won the mountains classification. A trio of Carlos Barredo, Damiano Cunego and Nicolas Roche followed him, without being able to reach him. Vinokourov and Luis León Sánchez were the next attacker. Vinokourov sat down at the top and Ballan fell back into the field. Thomas Voeckler tried in vain to still catch up with the vehicle in front of him, Kazakhs, but he was eventually caught up with the field. Vinokourov rescued a lead of 13 seconds on the peloton and took the missed day before stage victory.
