2010 Tri Nations Series

Tri Nations 2010 was the 15th edition of the annual rugby union Tri Nations tournament. Between 10 July and 11 September 2010, nine games were held. New Zealand won the tournament for the tenth time and was the first team ever in all six games unbeaten.

  • After the game, Bakkies Botha has been banned for unsportsmanlike conduct for nine weeks since he has Jimmy Cowan missed a Sap in the first minute, what has escaped referee Alan Lewis. Thus it is the overall miss Tri Nations 2010.
  • During the game, the All Blacks have become the team with the most goals points in international rugby and displaced the previous leaders France in second place.
  • After the game, Jean de Villiers has been locked because of a dangerous tackles Rene Ranger for two weeks, which he missed the following match against the Springboks, the Wallabies.
  • After the game, two players were suspended: The South African Jaque Fourie has been banned because of dangerous tackles Richard Brown for four weeks and thus missed the next match of the Springboks against the All Blacks.
  • The Australian Quade Cooper has been banned because of dangerous tackles to Morné Steyn for two weeks, with his hitherto unblemished discipline was a contributing factor. Cooper therefore absent in the first two games of the Wallabies against the All Blacks in Melbourne and Christchurch.
  • Springbok captain John Smit became the second South African with 100 caps after Percy Montgomery.
  • The result of this game meant that the All Blacks had won the 2010 edition of Tri Nations prematurely.
  • This game also ended with the 1000th victory for the All Blacks (including non- caps).
  • Victor Matfield played his 100th game for South Africa.
