2010 World Sprint Speed Skating Championships
The 41 Sprint Speed Skating World Cup was held on 16th and 17th January 2010 at the Japanese Hokkaido Tokachi Obihiro in the Meiji Oval. The ice rink has hosted the speed skating World Junior Championships in 1990. Due to personal Olympic preparations, the defending champion Shani Davis and Wang Beixing, and many other world-class runners were, this year, not at the start.
The winner of the men and women came in this year, both from South Korea. The last time the two winners came from a country was in 2004 when the Dutch heir and Marianne Timmer Wennemars were victorious. Lee Sang- hwa won her first world title and the first ever gold medal at a South Korean Sprint World Championships. Lee Kyu- hyeok won, however, after 2007 and 2008, already his third title in a Sprint Cup.

- 67 athletes from 18 different countries were to determine among themselves the sprint world champion
In the Sprint World Cup is on the 500 and 1,000 m distance, each in two days. When an athlete starts on the first day on the inside lane, it starts on the second day on the winger. The 24 best women and men in three sections qualify for the fourth line.
