2011–12 2. Bundesliga
The 2nd Bundesliga 2011/12 was the 38th season of the second highest German league in men's football. It began on July 15, 2011 and ended on May 6, 2012. Relegation games between the sixteenth day of the Bundesliga and the third in the Bundesliga 2 are for the 10th and 15th March 2012, the games between the sixteenth day of the second Bundesliga and the third party of the 3rd league for 11 and 14 May 2012 commenced sets.
For the first time since the 1995/96 season of the Northeast German Football Federation is again represented with five clubs. There are also two clubs from the area of the North German Football Association, five from the area of West German Football and Athletics Association and six of South German Football Association. Clubs from the area of the football Regional Council of Southwest are not represented as already in the 2010/11 season.
Two games before the season's end, the SpVgg Greuther Fürth secured promotion to the Bundesliga for the first time. Eintracht Frankfurt succeeded on the same matchday of the direct re- ascent.
