2011–12 Coppa Italia

The Coppa Italia, the most important Italian Cup competition began in the 2011/12 season on August 6, 2011 with first round matches. The final took place on 20 May 2012 will take between SSC Napoli and Juventus and was held in the Olympic Stadium of Rome. Naples decided the final with a 2-0 for himself. The winner will qualify directly for the group stage of the Europa League 2012/13.

Mode

At the 64th edition of the competition take part 78 teams. Firstly, all 20 teams in the Serie A and all 22 clubs in the Serie B. In addition, 27 teams from the Lega Pro, the third-highest professional league in Italy found, with 24 from the Lega Pro Prima Divisione and three clubs from the Lega Pro Seconda Divisione come. The 24 teams consist in each case of the four relegated to the Serie B last season, the teams that have failed in the playoffs for promotion to Serie B in 2011 and the finalists of the Coppa Italia Lega Pro of 2011.

The remaining seats are then filled with the best clubs in the terms of points and Girone A Girone B last season. The remaining nine grid positions shall be awarded to the runner-up of the 2010/11 season of the nine groups of series D, the highest amateur league, since each group first ascended.

Atletico Roma would actually be eligible as playoff participants of the previous year, but was ruled out due to financial difficulties of the Italian professional football.

In the first round hit the 36 teams in the three lowest divisions each other. The winners of the games then meet in the second round of the 22 clubs in the Serie B. In the third round, again the first division of seats 9-20 last season interfere with the events. The 16 winners of the third round, then play only in an additional qualifying round from each other 8 teams, then take 1-8 last season in the second round of the clubs in the courts.

Each match will be decided in a game, only the semi-final return matches will be played.
