2011–12 DEL season
The DEL 2011/12 season was the 18th season since the founding of the German Ice Hockey League, the highest league in the German Ice Hockey. The main session started on 16 September 2011. The League consisted of 14 teams. The finale ended on 24 April 2012 with the sixth title win for the Polar Bears Berlin.
For the season 2011/12 DEL presented a new corporate design, including a new logo and a trailer movie in 3D, to be played in the future in all DEL games.

Participant
The Master of the 2nd Bundesliga 2011 Ravensburg Tower Stars had applied for a DEL - license, the license was not issued on the basis of economic and infrastructural deficiencies.
Economy
Mode
As in previous years, a double round was played. The top six teams qualified directly for the play- offs, the teams ranked 7-10 played in best-of -three series two more play-off participants. The quarter-final series were played in the mode Best of Seven, semifinals and finals in the Best of Five mode.

Qualification
The qualifying matches were played in the mode " Best of Three" and took place on 14 and 15 March 2012.

The quarter-final matches have been played in the " Best of Seven" mode and took place on the 20th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 25th, 28th and 30th of March.
