2011 Copa Libertadores
The Copa Libertadores 2011, due to the sponsorship of the banking group Santander and Santander Libertadores Cup was the 52nd playout of the most important South American football competition for club teams. In this season, a total of 38 teams participate, 35 of the 10 member associations of CONMEBOL, including defending champion SC Internacional from Brazil and the winners of the Copa Sudamericana 2010 CA Independiente of Argentina, and three from Mexico. The tournament began on 25 January with the qualifying round and ended on 22 June with the final second leg.

Participating teams
The following teams took part in the Copa Libertadores 2011. Since the SC Internacional qualified automatically as defending champions, Brazil was allowed six instead of the usual five sending participants to the tournament, where two had in the qualification. Mexico, which actually belongs to the CONCACAF, by invitation sent three teams to the tournament one of which had in the qualification. The teams that had yet to qualify for the main round, are marked in the table with a (Q).
Mode
Case of a tie in the group stage on goal difference for the next round was decisive, then the number of goals scored, after which the away goals. Goods, these same, the lot decided. In the knockout rounds also was the away goals rule in point- and Torgleichheit. Was equal in number followed without extension immediately a penalty shootout. Only in the finale there was a draw after 90 minutes, before the penalty shoot another extension.
Qualification
The first legs took place from January 25 to 27, the return matches from 1 to 3 February 2011. Had the first named team in the first leg at home, the second in the return game.

The first legs took place on 26th - 28th April and the return legs on the 3rd - 5th May 2011 instead.
For the second round each of the first and second each group qualified.
The games were not paired, but determined by a set list. At the eight group winners according to their ranking in the start numbers of the second-best group winners, the numbers were awarded 1 to 8, which is the best group winners received 1, 2, and so were the eight group runners- 9 to 16 in the second round then played 1-16, 2 - 15, 3 - 14 ... so the best group first against the worst runners etc.
Quarterfinals
The first legs on 11-12. , The return matches on 18-19. May 2011 instead.
Semifinal
The first legs will find on 26-27. May the return matches on 2/3 June 2011 instead.
