2011 Djiboutian protests

The protests in Djibouti in 2011 began on 18 February 2011 with thousands of demonstrations against President Ismail Omar Guelleh and were part of the Arab Spring.

The population of Djibouti is composed of 60 % Arabs and 35 % Afar. Djibouti was one of the last colonies in Africa, in 1977 it was declared independent as of France. The protests are against corruption in the country and were also caused due to the large number of unemployed in the country. The protests in the country meant that the President of Djibouti promised reforms. In a French newspaper interview, Ismail Omar Guelleh, the President saw his country 's reform in a good way.
