2011 Giro del Trentino

The 35th Giro del Trentino was a cycling stage race, which took place from 19 to 22 April 2011. It was held in four stages over a total distance of 528.9 kilometers. The race was part of the UCI Europe Tour 2011, where it was first classified in the category 2.HC after it had consulted in the previous category 2.1.

Participant

At the start of 19 cycling teams, including seven teams went with a " UCI ProTeam " license (Liquigas -Cannondale, Lampre- ISD, Pro Team Astana, Katusha, Team RadioShack, BMC Racing Team, AG2R La Mondiale ) and 10 UCI Professional Continental teams. The other two participating teams - Miche - Guerciotti and D' Angelo & Antenucci - Nippo - were UCI Continental teams. The Team Cofidis, le Crédit en Ligne not stepped up to the race. There was a dispute with the organizers of the race, which was surprised and disappointed by the withdrawal of the team and wanted to sue for the costs incurred by using the UCI of Cofidis. Route

On the first day, the participants expected a 13.4 km individual time trial on a flat stretch of Riva del Garda on the northern shores of Lake Garda to Arco.

The second day took over some mountains, but was still the lightest stage of the Giro del Trentino and offered the opportunity that breakaways or sprinters showed up.

The sections on Thursday and Friday were then made ​​for climbers. The Fai della Paganella ( 1st category ) at an altitude of 1000 meters above the sea level had to cross twice on Thursday the Trentino- participants. The first summit finish ended here and after 33 km it was climbed for the first time. Of the eleven kilometer long steep increase is on average 7.2 percent. Three kilometers from the finish offered a particularly toxic pitch the opportunity to start the first attacks on the leaders.

The final stage ended in 1500 meters altitude in the skiing destination Madonna di Campiglio, where the current was several times as a guest. The climb of Madonna di Campiglio showed 13.7 kilometers on average 5.4 % gradient.

Race course

The German Andreas Kloden started after stage wins in Paris-Nice and the Critérium International and the overall victory in the Tour of the Basque Country continued its successful spring and was the opening time trial to decide for themselves. With three seconds ahead of Fabio Duarte and Tiago Machado made ​​up the victory on the third stage, to which the Colombian Duarte secured. Scarponi defended as day third overall lead, while Vincenzo Nibali one of the favorites on the final climb lost over one and a half minutes.

On the last day, arriving in Madonna di Campiglio Scarponi remained front and drove his third win of the season against a Machado and the Surprise Third Luca Ascani. A breakaway group made ​​the victory with a 24 -second lead over the favorites among themselves, to be finally brought Roman Kreuziger from Pro Team Astana.
