2011 GP3 Series season

The GP3 Series 2011 season was the second season of the GP3 series. It started on May 7, 2011 at the Istanbul Park Circuit and ended on 11 September 2011 at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza. The champion of the driver achieved ahead of Valtteri Bottas, whose team Lotus ART prematurely also won the team title.

Changes during the season

  • Already in front of the start of the season there were two driver changes. Although Doru Sechelariu was taken in February of Tech 1 Racing under contract, in early April the team, however, a driver trio, which he did not belong confirmed. In the week before the season opener Willi Steindl lost, who was already since November 2010 with RSC Mücke Motorsport under contract, his cockpit to Luciano Bacheta. Both pilots had already completed testing for the teams.
  • Carlin moved to the second weekend a pilot. Tom Dillmann was replaced for three race weekends by Daniel Morad, followed by Callum MacLeod. Dillmann paused the second race weekend and came since the third race weekend for the Addax team. He replaced Dominic Storey.
  • Andrea Caldarelli has been replaced by Tech 1 Racing for the third race weekend by Thomas Hylkema because it was changed in the Formula Nippon.

Race

The race calendar of the GP3 Series season 2011 was published on 18 January 2011. A total of eight race weekends were held, which were held as support to the Formula 1 and the GP2 series. A planned weekend in Monte Carlo had to be canceled for lack of space at the racetrack.
