2011 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships

The 39th Canoe Sprint World Championships was held from August 18 to 21, 2011 in the Hungarian city of Szeged instead. Was organized the World Cup by the International Canoe Federation (ICF). Szeged was after 1998 and 2006 for the third time to host a canoe racing World Championship. First, the French city of Vichy was planned as a venue. There, however, could not guarantee the congestion of the Allier River and thus fair racing conditions. The ICF awarded the World Cup then new.

A total of 37 competitions were held in the disciplines of canoe and kayak. The distances of the races were 200 m, 500 m, 1000 m and 5000 m. Paracanoeing was again the official competition program. Venue was a 2400 m long and 122 m wide artificial regatta course in the West Szeged. It was attended by approximately 1100 athletes from some 94 nations.

The World Cup was the main qualifier for the canoe racing competitions of the Olympic Summer Games in 2012. 70 % of all quota places were awarded here.

Paracanoeing

All Paracanoeing competitions are run over a distance of 200 m. The classification of boat classes is based on movement ability of the legs, arms and trunk. It will take place in eight regattas boat classes.
