2011 League of Ireland

The League of Ireland in 2011 ( officially: Airtricity League after the league sponsor Airtricity ) was the 91st season of the highest Irish Football League. The season began on March 4, 2011 and ended on 28 October 2011, the 36th and final day.

By expanding the league to 12 participants in the following season, there was no direct relegated, but only a relegation duel between the bottom team of the regular season and the third in the First Division.

Master was the defending champion and record holder Shamrock Rovers. In the play-offs had to Galway United.

The last- place team Galway United had to deliver against the third best team in the First Division Monaghan United Relegation games. The winner Monaghan United was allowed to play in the next season in the first division, while the losing team Galway United had to play in the second division. The champion and the runner-up of the First Division (Cork City and Shelbourne FC ) increased directly.
