2011 Rally de Portugal

The Rally of Portugal 2011 ( officially Vodafone Rally de Portugal) was the third round of the FIA ​​World Rally Championship 2011.

This started after the new rules event for the third time, the new Citroën DS3 WRC cars WRC and Ford Fiesta RS WRC were used. It went to Portugal for the first time also equipped with 1600 cc engine Super 2000 cars from Mini ( BMW) at the start. The rally was conducted from 24 to 27 December 2011, mainly in the Algarve and the Alentejo region in southern Portugal. At this event was also the first of six races in the Rally World Youth Championship (from 2011 " WRC Academy ") and the second of seven rounds of the Production World Rally Championship ( PWRC ) 2011.

Routing and conditions

The paddock was established in Faro. The ceremonial start took place in the afternoon of March 24, just before the first spectator special stage in Lisbon. This paved, only 3.27 km short test had no influence on the starting order for the next day. The other stages consisted of gravel roads, but mostly from gravelly, very narrow and winding forest paths. Seventeen special stages with a length of 385.37 km were launched on schedule. The total length including liaison stages was 1359.71 km. In the last two stages, there was heavy rain, this made ​​the track, according to statements by some drivers, such as slippery down on ice.

The French Citroen driver Sebastien Ogier work achieved third overall win of his career and second consecutive victory in the Rally of Portugal. In the second place his team-mate Sebastien Loeb came through the target, followed by starting for the Ford World Rally Team Finns Jari- Matti Latvala.
