2011 World Table Tennis Championships

The 56th World Table Tennis Championship 2011 was held from 8 to 15 May 2011 in Rotterdam Ahoy instead. Only the individual competitions were held. The Dutch city received in February 2008 by the participants of the Annual General Meeting of the International Table Tennis Federation ( ITTF ) the surcharge. After 1955 and 1999, the Netherlands was the third time host of the World Table Tennis Championship.

Survey

Once again dominated the Chinese participants, the event and took all the gold and silver medals. In the men's singles Zhang Jike won the fourth title for China in a row since 2005. With Ma Long / Xu Xin, the tenth consecutive title since 1993 went to China. Still persevering were the successes of the Women: Ding Ning in single ( ninth title in a row since 1995) and Guo Yue / Li Xiaoxia in double ( twelfth consecutive titles since 1989). In Mixed Zhang Chao / Cao Zhen won gold ( eleventh consecutive title since 1991).

The semi-finals were the only non-Chinese Timo Boll ( Germany ) in the Men's Singles, Young Sik Jung / Kim Min Seok (Japan) in the men's doubles, Kim Kyung-ah/Park Mi -young ( Korea) and Jiang Huajun / Tie Yana ( Hong Kong ) in women's doubles and Seiya Kishikawa / Ai Fukuhara (Japan) in the mixed doubles.

A total of 801 players from 143 countries competed in the individual competition.

Performance of the German participants

Single Men

  • Timo Boll was also aware of the participation in the doubles competition and - omitted the mixed competition in order to focus exclusively on the individual competitions - as with the previous world championships. After wins over Kenji Matsudaira (Japan ) Yang Zi ( Singapore ), Robert Svensson ( Sweden), Dimitrij Ovtcharov ( Germany ) and Chen Qi ( China), he reached - the only non- Chinese - the semi-finals; Bronze it was now safe. Here, the eventual world champion Zhang Jike (China), however, showed superior and won 4-1. It was Boll's first World Cup medal in singles.
  • Dimitrij Ovtcharov failed in the second round with 2:4 to Timo Boll. Previously, he had won against Rønneberg Espen (Norway ), Stefan Fegerl ( Austria ) and Seiya Kishikawa (Japan).
  • Bastian Steger also reached the second round. After victories over Kim Nam Chol (North Korea), Seo Hyun Deok ( South Korea) and Leung Chu Yan ( Hong Kong ), he succumbed to the Chinese Ma Lin.
  • Zoltan Fejer - Konnerth won against Mattias Karlsson (Sweden) and Adrian Crisan (Romania ), failed in the third round, however, to the Japanese Jun Mizutani.
  • Patrick Baum also came in round three by throwing Yevhen Pryschtschepa (Ukraine ) and Zoran Primorac (Croatia ) out of the race. The South Korean Joo Se Hyuk was too strong.
  • Ruwen Filus came in his first World Cup finals against the Czech Petr Korbel next round. Then he lost to Wang Liqin (China) with 0:4.
  • Christian Suss difference in the first round unexpectedly against Jang Song Man (North Korea).
  • Originally from Germany Thomas Keinath competed for Slovakia and reached the second round where he lost to Joo Se Hyuk (South Korea).

Single Ladies

  • Wu Jiaduo came the farthest. She turned off Linda Creemers (Netherlands), Song Ma Eum ( South Korea) and Li Qiangbing ( Austria ). In the second round she lost to the Chinese Guo Yue.
  • Zhenqi Barthel reached by defeating Nanthana Komwong (Thailand) to the second round, where she failed to Wu Yang (China).
  • Kristin silver iron lost in the first round unexpectedly against the Spaniard Galia Dvorak.
  • Also Sabine Winter - they first participated in a World Championship - was defeated in the first round against Li Jiao (Netherlands).
  • Kathrin Mühlbach was the first time while at a World Cup. She was beaten in the entrance round of Wu Xue (Dominican Republic).

Doubles Men

  • Tree / Steger was defeated in the quarter-finals the Chinese Ma Long / Xu Xin. Previously, she had prevailed against Jesús Cantero / He Zhiwen (Spain ), Kou Lei / Yevhen Pryschtschepa (Ukraine) and Kenta Matsudaira / Koki Niwa (Japan).
  • Filus / Fejer - Konnerth won against Adrian Crisan / Andrei Filimon (Romania). In the second round, she dropped out against Chen Qi / Ma Lin ( China).

Doubles Women

  • Fejer-Konnerth/Barthel survived two rounds by beating Soumyadeep Roy / Poulomi Ghatak (India) and Ri Chol Guk / Kim Hye Song ( North Korea). After that, they lost 1:4 against the Chinese Yan An / Feng Yalan
  • Filus / Mühlbach won against Daniel Reed / Hannah Hicks (England). In the second round, she dropped out to Adrian Crisan / Daniela Dodean (Romania).

  • From 98 games against non-Chinese, the Chinese participants won 96 games. Only Timo Boll in the individual against Chen Qi and Seo Hyun Deok / Seok Ha Jung ( South Korea) in mixed against Yan An / Feng Yalan could score against the Chinese. While also won the South Korean Lee Eun Hee Ladies Double / Park Young- sook against the Chinese Feng Yalan / Mu Zi, but the result was annulled because Lee Eun Hee played with a bat too thick lining.
  • About 10 players were disqualified for using illegal bat.
  • The Russian Kirill Skachkov was disqualified because he freaked out several times and finally destroyed the border.
