2011 World Women's Handball Championship
The 20th World Handball Championship for Women was held in Brazil from 2 to 18 December 2011. The event was organized by the International Handball Federation (IHF ). World Champion 2011, Norway to a 32:24 victory in the final against France.
Participating teams
As host of the tournament Brazil is automatically qualified. As the winner of World Cup 2009, the Russian women's national handball team is also automatically qualified for the tournament; Russia had won the title in 2009 for the third time in a row.
Also set as participants are the top three teams in the European championship 2010 (Norway, Sweden, Romania). A further eight places of the field, the European Handball Federation. In qualifiers from November 30 to December 5, 2010, the teams have been identified and on 4/5 June and 11-12. June 2011 to participate in the World Cup play.
The participating teams are from Brazil ( host ), Russia ( defending champion ), Angola, Tunisia, Ivory Coast ( qualified via the African Cup of Nations 2010), Norway, Sweden, Romania ( qualified through the European Handball Championship of Women 2010 ), Kazakhstan, South Korea, China, Japan ( qualified via the Asian Cup 2010 ), Australia ( qualified via the Ozeanienmeisterschaft 2010), Croatia, Denmark, France, Germany, Iceland, Montenegro, the Netherlands and Spain ( qualified through the European playoffs ).
Changes
In the 2007 World Cup was played in a knockout stage in six groups of four, followed by Main Round and from the quarter- finals at the 2009 World Championships in four groups of six, with subsequent main round and a knock-out phase from the semi-final; In 2011, following a preliminary round in four Sechergruppen a beginning with the second round knockout phase. The numbers 1 to 8 and 17 to 24 are pitted.
Maximum of two time-outs per half, as a maximum requested time off in the last five minutes of a match. The half-time was extended for five to fifteen minutes.

On 3 July 2011, the teams were drawn against the four preliminary round groups.
