2012–13 Belgian Pro League

The First Division 2012/13 was the 110th season of the highest Belgian league in men's football. It began on 28 July 2012 and ended on 26 May 2013. Defending champion RSC Anderlecht.

Regular Season

The 16 teams first played in a double round of the regular season. The final table was the basis for the qualifying rounds at different placement.

The top six teams reached the championship round, the teams in positions seven to fourteen played for a possible international launch site. The two last-place teams played in the relegation. It should be noted that in the championship round half the number of points was transferred from the 30 matches of the preliminary round, so that the other encounters could cause some minor changes depending on the situation in the table.

Championship round

The top six clubs in the regular season reached the championship round, which was played in a double round. The participating teams each got half the points scored in the regular season credited. In half points were rounded up to the next highest score. In case of equality of the half point was deducted from the teams in question again.

The table First and Second qualified for the UEFA Champions League 2013 /14, while third one starting place in the UEFA Europa League 2013/14 is replaced. The fourth-placed denied in return game a playoff game against the winner of the play-off round. The teams ranked five and six are not internationally qualified.

Play-offs

The teams that have reached the courts seven to fourteen in the regular season, qualified for the play-offs. The eight participating teams were divided with four teams according to their rankings in two groups ( group A: 7, 9, 12, 14 - Group B: 8, 10, 11, 13), in each of which a double round was played.

The two group winners then determined in a return match the participants in the Europa League playoffs. There he played against the fourth-placed round the champion for a starting place in the UEFA Europa League 2013 / 14th

Expulsion

The last and Vorletztplatzierte the regular season contest the relegation. There were four games between the two teams played ( since after four games had already been decided the winner, accounted for the fifth game ). Here ( Beerschot AC) of the penultimate regular season received a bonus of three points and allowed an additional home game playing more than the last Cercle Bruges.

Cercle Brugge won three of the first four games and was so unassailable despite the 3 bonus points for Beerschot AC as relegation winner is determined. Bruges now denies an additional Relegation round with three teams from the second division, in which only the winner of the First Division qualified. The loser of the relegation Beerschot AC increases, however, from direct to the second division.
