2012 AFC Cup

The AFC Cup 2012 was the ninth edition of the Asian Football Confederation ( AFC) discharged AFC Cup. During a restructuring and upgrading of the AFC Champions League for new criteria and the AFC Cup was awarded in 2009 a different face than in previous years. Turner was held until November 3, 2012 from March 6.

Eligible countries

Altogether participated 32 teams from the associations belonging to the AFC at AFC Cup 2012:

  • Each two teams from Hong Kong Hong Kong, Iraq, Iraq, Yemen, Yemen, Jordan, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Lebanon, Malaysia, Maldives, Oman, Syria, Syria, Vietnam Vietnam
  • Team each from Bahrain Bahrain, India India, Thailand Thailand
  • Two invitations for teams from: not yet determined.

There were also the four losers of the play-offs of the AFC Champions League 2012 and one of the finalists of the AFC Cup 2011, which has not met the criteria to participate in the AFC Champions League and automatically get a seat for the AFC Cup 2012 got.

Mode

Group stage

In the group stage, 32 teams played in eight groups of four teams in the league mode (outward and return ) to the three- point rule. The teams were divided along geographical lines: In groups A to E teams played from Western and Central Asia, in the groups F to H were to teams from East and Southeast Asia. The two group winners qualified for the Final Round of 16

Final round

The second round was a draw and decided in a single game. From the quarter- final was played in the knockout system with return match of the tournament winner, the away goals rule applied. If in the return game and / or final after regular time and extra time are fixed no winner, the winner in the penalty shootout was determined.

The final was played in only one game. Venue was the home of one of the two finalists.

Qualified teams

Group stage

Terengganu FA (Malaysia) and Ayeyawady United ( Myanmar) were originally intended as teams had to participate in the qualifying round. After Liaoning Hongyun (China) has withdrawn its participation and Persipura Jayapura (Indonesia) was disqualified, should participate in the East Asian qualifying round of the AFC Champions League 2012 only three teams, which meant that only a finale to be held, rather than two.
