2012 Aircel Chennai Open

The Aircel Chennai Open 2012 was a tennis tournament, which was held in Chennai from 2nd to 8th January 2012. It was part of the ATP World Tour in 2012 and was discharged on hard court. In the same week Brisbane were playing the Brisbane International and the Qatar ExxonMobil Open in Doha in that counted just like the Aircel Chennai Open to Category ATP World Tour 250.

In single Stanislas Wawrinka walked to defend their title, but already retired from the quarter-finals. Biggest surprises of the tournament were the two from the qualification started Soeda and Yuichi Sugita Japanese Gō: While Soeda by his victory over Wawrinka in his career reached an ATP semifinal for the first time, failed in the world ranked 235th Sugita in the quarterfinals just wide of the set at position 2 Nicolás Almagro, had to fend off which three match points. In doubles, Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes were the defending champions, but they were no longer together this year, but with each new partners. While Bhupathi was eliminated in the semifinal, Paes reached together with Janko Tipsarevic again the final, where they met with Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram. Although Tipsarevic had played only a short time before the three -hour singles final, the two were able to prevail in two sets and thus win their first title together. For Tipsarevic, this was also the first ATP doubles title of his career, Paes contrast, had previously been able to win 47 ATP doubles titles, including five in Chennai alone.

The field of the individual competition consisted of 28 players, double that of the competition from 16 pairs. The four top-seeded player in singles each got a bye into the second round.
