2012 European Men's Handball Championship qualification

Mode

At the 2012 European Championship take part 16 teams. Of the 39 reported for the qualifying teams from the host Serbia and the defending champion France are directly qualified. All other nations have to qualify in two group stages of the tournament.

The twelve participants in the first qualifying round were dissolved on January 31, 2010 in Vienna into three groups of four. The respective winners qualified for the second round.

At the second qualifying round of the 14 is not directly qualified participants in the 2010 European Championships, the seven group winners qualifying round of the World Cup 2011, the four best teams in the EHF National Team ranking and the three group winners, the first qualifying round take part. The teams were split on April 12, 2010 in Belgrade on seven groups of four, in which the teams compete against each group opponent deny a return game. The top two teams in each group qualify for the European Championship.

In case of equal first decides the direct comparison, then goal difference, and finally the higher number of goals scored.

First qualifying round

Group A

All games were held in London at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre. Estonia moved as group winners in the second qualifying round.

Group B

All games were held in Tbilisi in Tbilisi Sports Palace. The group winners Latvia moved into the second qualifying round.

Group C

All games were held in Luxembourg at the Centre National Sportif & Culturel ( Coque ). Israel withdrew as group winners in the second qualifying round.

Second qualifying round

For the second qualifying round following 28 teams qualified:

  • The 14 is not directly qualified participants in the 2010 European Championships: Croatia, Iceland, Poland, Denmark, Spain, Norway, Czech Republic, Austria, Germany, Slovenia, Russia, Hungary, Sweden and Ukraine
  • The seven group winners qualifying round of the World Cup 2011: Switzerland, Romania, Slovakia, Netherlands, Greece, Portugal and Lithuania
  • The four best teams in the EHF National Team ranking: Macedonia, Montenegro, Belarus and Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • The three group winners of the first qualifying round: Estonia, Latvia, Israel

The draw for the groups took place in Belgrade on April 12, 2010. The top two teams in each group qualify for the European Championship in Serbia. The games found in three double match days 27-28. and 30-31. October 2010, on 9-10. and 12-13. March 2011 and on 8/9 and 11-12. June 2011 instead.
