2012 Ryder Cup
The 39th Ryder Cup was held until September 30, 2012 at the Medinah Country Club, Illinois, USA 28. The European champions were the Cup with a score of 14 ½: 13 ½ points to defend. Particular importance was gained this victory by the fact that Europeans were able to catch up a backlog of four points in the final single matches against this favorite Americans. In the Ryder Cup history, this was the first time that this was achieved of a team in an away game.

Club / Course
The " Medinah Country Club" is located in a suburb about 40 km northwest of the city of Chicago and has a total of three 18 -hole courses. The 28 Games of the Ryder Cup encounter were doing all played on the 7000 m long "Course 3". The club was in the past already hosts the U.S. Open three times (1949, 1975, 1990) and the PGA Championship twice (1999 and 2006).

USA
The new captain of the U.S. team's Davis Love III announced on September 4, 2012 his choice known. The eight best professionals of the PGA money list, he was nominated by " Captains Pick" Jim Furyk, Steve Stricker, Brandt Snedeker and Dustin Johnson. As a "non- playing" Vice Captains he nominated Fred Couples, Mike Hulbert, Scott Verplank and Jeff Sluman
Europe
The Spaniard José María Olazábal represented, also for the first time, Europe as a captain. One of the five best players in the European and the World Money List he nominated Nicolas Colsaerts and Ian Poulter by " Captains Pick". He also agreed with U.S. Captain Love, that notwithstanding the usual two, up to four Vice - Captains were nominated; as these functioned for Europe: Miguel Ángel Jiménez, Thomas Bjorn, Darren Clarke and Paul McGinley.

Mode Game Results
A total of 28 games were held in Match Play mode. Each four foursomes on Friday and Saturday morning, in the afternoon were then played four fourball matches. On the final twelve individual matches were played traditionally.
