2012 Swiss Indoors

The Swiss Indoors Basel 2012 was a tennis tournament, which took place in Basel from 22 to 28 October 2012. It was part of the ATP World Tour in 2012 and was held in the indoor hard courts. In the same week the Valencia Open 500 were played in Valencia, who scored just like the Swiss Indoors Basel to Category ATP World Tour 500. The venue of the tournament was the St. James Hall, which is just behind the Basel city limits in Munich stone.

Defending champion Roger Federer was in individual, one behind the other was this year for the seventh time in the final and there met the Argentine Juan Martín del Potro. In a hard fought final del Potro won in three sets 6:4, 6:75 and 7:63. In the sixteenth meeting of the two it was only the third victory of the Argentine. This year it was the first victory in seven meetings. In doubles, Michaël Llodra and Nenad Zimonjic were the defending champions; Zimonjić came into this year with his former doubles partner Daniel Nestor and won the final again. They defeated the duo Treat Conrad Huey of the Philippines and Dominic Inglot of Great Britain in three sets. For Zimonjić it was already the third in Basel, for Nestor even the fourth title. 2009 could jointly take the title in Basel the two already once.

As part of the tournament on the opening day event took place because of the 100th anniversary of Swiss Olympic honoring all Swiss Olympian, where the three main Olympic winners of all time were chosen. The title went to the ski jumper Simon Ammann, the former ski racer Vreni Schneider and the wheelchair athlete Edith Wolf- Hunkeler.
