2012 Tallahassee Tennis Challenger
The Tallahassee Tennis Challenger 2012 was the 13th edition of the hard court tennis tournament in Tallahassee. It was part of the ATP Challenger Tour in 2012 and was held from 31 March to 8 April 2012. It was the last year, was played in the on DecoTurf before was changed the following year on sand.
The field of the individual competition consisted of 32 players, double that of the competition from 16 pairings. Prior to the tournament doubles was a qualifying round with 32 participants, or 4 instead of participating, in which four players could qualify for the Singles Main Draw and a double for the double - peloton. The prize money of the event was $ 50,000.
Prior to the Taiwanese Lu Yen - hsun top seed had to withdraw his participation due to a neck injury. For him, the Canadian Frank Dancevic advanced with a wild card into the main draw, where he made it to the finals. There, however, he had at the start of the second set to give up also due to an injury, which the American Tim Smyczek could celebrate the first Challenger singles title of his career. Last year's winner Donald Young of the United States did not present himself to defend his title.
In the doubles competition, the top-seeded German - Swedish pair failed to enforce consisting of Martin Emmrich and Andreas Siljeström against the qualifier Artem Sitak from New Zealand and Blake Strode from the U.S. in straight sets in the final. This was Emmrichs tenth success in a doubles tournament of the Challenger category of his career. For Siljeström it was seventh overall doubles title on the ATP Challenger Tour. It was their sixth joint tournament success and the first this season. Last year's winners Vasek Pospisil and Bobby Reynolds appeared in this constellation is not to defend the title. Pospisil failed with his new partner Pierre- Ludovic Duclos in the first round; Reynolds reached with Carsten Ball set at position three the quarterfinals.
