2012 UCI World Tour

The UCI World Tour 2012 comprised 28 cycling races, including the three -week tour Tour de France, Giro d' Italia and Vuelta a España ( Grand Tours), as well as major cycling classics, including the five monuments of cycling Milan - Sanremo, Tour of Flanders, Paris - Roubaix, Liege -Bastogne- Liège and Giro di Lombardia. The competitions were held from January to October, 2012. In each race ( one-day races ) or the stage and overall standings ( stage race ) were awarded points for finishing position, which were offset to world rankings for drivers, teams and nations.

Participants were particularly licensed ProTeam. In addition, Professional Continental teams could be invited by the respective organizers of a race. In some competitions such as the Tour Down Under in Australia or the Tour of Poland also a national team of the host country was eligible to participate.

Team

UCI ProTeam

In a communication dated 5 October 2011, the UCI announced, which have applied for registration for this 2012 season already for the year 2012 licensed teams and which teams still apply for such a license and registration. The application process was completed on November 1. The final decision about the license distribution took place on 10 December. In the notification, the Movistar team that has yet boast a valid license until 2013, and the Garmin-Cervélo team were not named, as both had submitted their documents by the deadline of October 1. On 25 October, the UCI published a sporting criteria as determined by the ranking of the license applicant. These are calculated according to the results of the driver of each team in the seasons 2010 and 2011. Accordingly, 15 teams meet the sporting requirements, while five teams fighting for three or availability. The Team Argos -Shimano team did not meet the sporting Kriteriun and had therefore no chance of a ProTeam license.

On 1 November, the UCI announced that eight teams with a valid license to meet the sporting, financial, ethical and administrative requirements and therefore have already been established as a ProTeam for 2012. The other applicants for a ProTeam license were heard until November 20 before the License Commission of the International Cycling Union.

The Team Team Argos Shimano missed a 21 team this relied ranking athletic qualification for licensing. In four other teams that ranked 16-20 this ranking, sporting qualification criterion was reviewed in detail by the licensing commission. Of these, three were more the WorldTour Team license, while the applications of Geox -TMC and Europcar were rejected. As a UCI ProTeam for 2012 finally following teams have been registered:

UCI Professional Continental teams

The UCI announced on 12 December 2011 that the following 22 teams a license as a Professional Continental team have received for the 2012 season:

Race

On 11 October 2011, the Union Cycliste Internationale published the race calendar for 2012. E3 Prize Flanders By a new competition was included in the program. On 26 June 2012, the licensing commission said that with the Tour of Hangzhou another Chinese race will be added to the calendar and should be the end of the season 2012, but was canceled by the UCI, as the standards of a World Tour race in 2012 not yet complied could be. The weightiest schedule changes compared to 2011 relate to the Clasica San Sebastian and the Tour of Poland and the Tour of Lombardy. The Clasica is discharged due to the 2012 Summer Olympics, not the end of July, but in mid-August, it focuses on the Poland - tour from August to July. The Tour of Lombardy is no longer in mid-October as the final race of the World Tour, but at the end of September.

The team ranking is determined by the points of the 5 best riders of each team are added together. Teams who finish in the team time trial of UCI Road World Championships 2012 in the top ten, get extra points according to the following scheme:

All 18 ProTeam have achieved at least a point.

Nations Cup

The national ranking is determined by the points of the 5 best drivers from each country will be added.

Drivers from 35 nations have achieved at least a point.

In the UCI World Tour ranking points as follows will be awarded for the UCI World:

  • Category 1: Tour de France
  • Category 2: Giro d' Italia, Vuelta a España
  • Category 3: Monuments of cycling, Miscellaneous stage race
