The 132nd U.S. Open took place until 10 September 2012 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows Park in New York, USA from August 27. Rain and severe weather warnings had the consequence that the singles final of the women was held for the fifth time in a row on Sunday and the men on Monday.

Defending champion Novak Djokovic in the individual were in the men's and Samantha Stosur in the women. In the men's doubles were Philipp Petzschner and Jurgen Melzer, in women's doubles Liezel Huber and Lisa Raymond, the defending champion. Melanie Oudin and Jack Sock was the defending champion in mixed doubles.

The former world ranking leader Kim Clijsters of Belgium and Andy Roddick of the United States challenged at the U.S. Open, the last tournament of their professional career.
