2013 Copa Sudamericana

The Copa Sudamericana 2013 is the 12th playout of the second most important South American football competition for club teams, which since 2013 operates also under the name " Copa Sudamericana Total " due to the sponsorship of the French oil company Total. Take it like last year 47 teams from 10 member associations of CONMEBOL, including defending champion Sao Paulo, in part. Argentina was as had six and eight participants Brazil; the remaining eight countries, four participants in the competition. This is played as before in the second half.

Mode

Like last year, there before the knockout stages again two rounds. In the first round start the eight countries (except Argentina and Brazil ) with their four teams each. Participants from Argentina and Brazil to start only in the second round, defending champion Sao Paulo until the second round. The competition will be held also as usual from the first round to the final in pure knockout system with return game. With point- and Torgleichheit the away goals rule. If the number of away goals scored equal, follows after the return game immediately followed by a penalty shootout. In the final, the away goals rule does not apply. Is there to return game, the goal difference is equal, there is an extension, and only then, if necessary, given a penalty shootout.

First round

Participants are four teams from eight countries of South America, with the exception of teams from Argentina and Brazil. The first legs took place between 30 July and 2 August, the return matches between August 6 and 9, 2013.

2nd round

For the second round, qualified the sixteen winners of the first round and six teams from Argentina and eight teams from Brazil, where the clubs from those two countries competed separately against each other. The first legs took place between 14 and 21 August, the return matches between 28 August and 5 September, 2013.

Second round

For the second round, the 15 winners of the 2nd round and defending champion Sao Paulo qualified. The first legs took place between 18 and 26 September, the return matches between 25 September and 24 October, 2013.

Quarterfinals

The first legs took place between 29th and 31st October and the return matches on 6 and 7 November, 2013.

Semifinal

The first legs took place on 27 and 28 November 2013 on 20 and 21, the return games.
