2013 European Eventing Championship

The European Championships in eventing in 2013 found from August 29 to September 1, 2013 in the southern Swedish city of Malmö instead.

Preparation

In February 2011, the FEI announced that the European Championships of Eventing were awarded in 2013 to Malmö. There is annually the Malmö City Horse Show, an international 3 * eventing short test ( CIC 3 *) discharged during this event also versatility was twice the World Cup Finals. The European Championships were first held in Sweden.

Implementation, venue, media

Main sponsor of the European Championships in Malmo was the British banking giant HSBC. Malmö here was the last major event of the sponsorship agreement between HSBC and the FEI, which expires at the end of the year.

Venue of the event was Ribersborgsstranden, the beach area of ​​Malmö district Ribersborg. The dressage and show jumping competition took place on the two clay courts in the area of ​​the promenade ( Limhamnsvägen ). The cross country course was built on the green area between the coastal road and beach.

Before the European Championships have focused on the issue of animal welfare in the spotlight: The Swedish animal welfare legislation is one of the strictest in the world and thus goes beyond the rules of the FEI. So says the local animal protection law that horses that are treated in some form, generally not allowed to participate in competitions. This Reglungen would have had the consequence that, for example, event horses, which secrete large amounts of electrolytes through their sweat, no electrolytes should be supplied. The spread in equestrian acupuncture would have been prohibited. To clarify this problem, the Bureau of the Swedish Ministry of Agriculture and the FEI sat down together to find compromises. The FEI presented first major equestrian events, to be held in the next few years in Sweden ( Pony European Championships 2015 World Cup Final Dressage / Jumping 2016), subject to change.

On German television ZDF showed on Saturday and Sunday a half-hour broadcast of the event. The FEI transferred the tournament free of charge on its website.

Competitions

General

Traditionally, there are at the European Championships two ratings: the team and the individual ranking. Both ratings are determined in the same tests, Team Riders score well for the individual classification. Since 2005, the European Championship is as Lang test according to new format - played on CCI 3 * - dressage, terrain, jumping.

In Malmö ten teams and other individual riders took to the start, the participants comprised a 61 rider. The participating nations could each send four team riders and two individual riders with one horse at the European Championships. As host nation Sweden was allowed to bring six individual tab next to the team riders at the start.

Schedule

The athletic program of the European Championships began on Thursday (August 29 ) with the first part of the dressage competition. This was continued on Friday.

The second part of the audit was to off-road track, the core of versatility. This is carried out on Saturday. On Sunday was the last part test that jumping on the program. After this the new European champion stood firm. The tests lasted from morning to afternoon.

The German team riders remained in the terrain without error and thus secured the lead in the points' standings. The Swedish team showed a very good performance and maintained its second place. The team of Great Britain was weakened by the departure of Lucy Wiegersma and slid 40 minus points of Pippa Funnell to sixth place from.
