2013 FIBA Africa Championship

The basketball Africa Championship 2013 ( in short: Afrobasket 2013) is the 27th edition of this tournament and was held from 20 to 31 August 2013, the Ivorian capital Abidjan instead. All matches were played at the Palais des Sports de Treichville. The medal winner of the tournament qualified for the finals of the Basketball World Championship 2014.

While defending champion Tunisia remained in ninth place behind expectations after the second round defeat against winless in the preliminary round Egyptians to Angola was able to take the title and win the eleventh title success in the last 13 sweeps of the championship. The losing finalist Egypt returned after ten years back in the medal ranks. Host Ivory Coast failed in the " small final " with a point of difference on the Senegal, which had clearly beaten still in the preliminary round, and thus missed the qualification for the World Cup finals in 2014.

Directly qualified were the hosts and the three medal winners of the African Cup of Nations 2011:

Mode

At the tournament a preliminary round in four groups was held to four teams as a round-robin tournament. The rankings in the qualifying groups yielded a set list for the final knockout rounds, in the first knockout round, the four group best played as the first knockout round first against one of four group last and the four runners-up against one of the four third group. According to the preliminary round results, a quotient was formed after the loser of the first knockout round fought out another placement match. The losers of the quarter-finals played in a placement round out the ranks Five to Eight. The losers of the semi-finals played in the " small final " for the bronze medal and a remaining spot at the finals of the World Cup. The winners of the semi finals were qualified for the finals of the World Cup and played for the gold medal.
