Defending champion Rafael Nadal was that his compatriot David Ferrer 6-3, 6-2, 6-3 defeat in the final. He won for the eighth time overall the tournament in Roland Garros, no other players could often win a Grand Slam tournament as Nadal in the men's singles. From the then current top ten in the world rankings both Andy Murray and Juan Martin del Potro said injury from their participation.
